For the last project of the semester, I worked on redesigning the Specsavers optician shop in the Wilton shopping centre, in Cork.
In order to increase the complexity of the project, I had an extra floor to work with, and had to fit more spaces than the existing shop had. I got the opportunity to visit it, including the staff areas, which enabled me to get a good idea of the spaces and improvements needed.
I went for light timber and a subtle shade of grey, using a lot of double and triple heights spaces to increase the light and impression of space, as the building is pretty narrow, with only 5 m wide. I worked a lot on lighting, both natural and artificial, using skylights, glazed partitions and feature pendant lights in the exhibition area to emphasis on the space and the objects on display. In addition, I created fitted furniture for the display area, such as the dispensing pods and the reception desks.
